2011 Saturday Workshops
11:30-12:30pm Knitting: The Basics
Hosted by: Deb and friends
Have you ever seen a sweater or a scarf that you thought you'd like to make--but you've never picked up a pair of knitting needles and have no clue how to even begin?
English instructor, Deb Babcock and her friends from the Everett High School knitting circle, will start you out with a scarf and a washcloth that you can complete in a few hours (or days!)
Sets of # 8 (short) knitting needles for the washcloth OR and #10 or #11 (short) knitting needles for the scarf will be available for use at the workshop. Yarn will be provided unless you have a skein that you want to learn with.
12 noon - 1pm How to Maximize your LGBT Employee Contributions: A Walk in My Shoes
Presenter: Deborah Rettke is a 20 year veteran of Intel Corporation, native Michigander and the second generation Lesbian owner/operator of Duneswood Resort in Empire Michigan. Several years ago Deborah created and has presented this LGBT Awareness Workshop at major Fortune 400 companies, Out and Equal Conferences, and now for you!
Description: This workshop is LGBT awareness training at the most basic level. It introduces a language and gives practical tools to people that are unfamiliar with the LGBT Community. It combines interactive exercises to help the participants walk for a few seconds in LGBT shoes, with interactive documented data and lecture.
The first half hour Deborah will deliver the Power Point based workshop "How to Maximize your LGBT Employee Contributions: A Walk in My Shoes". There will be a brief discussion after and then a 5 minute break.
The second half hour will be devoted to those that want to return and discuss how to get "permission" to present in their organization, review the speaker notes, obtain individual coaching on how to tailor the presentation to their needs, have a chance to practice, and receive feedback on presentation skills. Participants will leave with a rough draft of 'their' presentation.
