Ferron
wsg Cindy
Lehmkuhle
Ferron is
a singer/songwriter and poet. In addition to being one of Canada's
most famous folk musicians, she is one of the most influential writers
and performers of women's
music, and an important influence on later musicians such
as Ani DiFranco and
the Indigo
Girls.
Ferron is featured in the documentary on women's music, Radical
Harmonies 2002.
Ferron's rough-hewn voicing, chewy phrasing, and poetic songwriting
has brought many favorable comparisons, including Kitty
Wells, Leonard
Cohen, Bob Dylan,
and Bruce
Springsteen.
One wit aptly summed up Ferron's legendary status by calling her "the
Johnny Cash of lesbian folksinging" Bett
Williams 2000

Cindy Lehmkuhle
Cindy Lehmkuhle (lem-cool) has been writing
songs most of her life. An intensely private person, it took
a turning point in her life for her to make her songs more
permanently public. In January 2006 she released her CD, Every
Road, backed by an all-star cast of her musician-friends. The
recording has led her to numerous live performances, each one
a unique reflection of the artist, each one a glimpse within.
Whether performing solo, as a duo or backed by a full band,
she combines the magic of friends making music with the power
of unpretentious, real-life song-writing. Cindy's songs run
the gamut from power pop to blues to heartfelt folk. Every
song is an honest expression of the warmth and depth of her
soul.

Chara Love
Ever since her father bought her a new keyboard for Christmas
every year while she was growing up, Chara Love has dreamed of
composing her own album and being a performing musician. Drawing
on the experiences of her life both good and bad, Chara brings
forth that album now on Illegible Records and prepares to perform
with all her soul.
Honing her skills in the music program at Lansing Community College
and before that, years on her own whenever she could, Chara has
assembled what could best be described as a soliloquoy. Her past
as a child as well as recent relationships are examined in often
brutal honesty. "I think everything happens for a reason," she
says, pointedly. This is showcased even more in the very production
of the compositions, with songs often left bare with the songwriter
and her guitar and little more.
Having found recent success at local open mic events, Chara finds
herself with a growing reputation and now often in the position
of answering such questions as 'where's your cd?' and the like.
Even though she commits herself to music around a grueling schedule
of work and school she'll be the first to tell someone that it
can elude her at times - which only adds to her passion later on.
She is, arguably, happiest during the quietest moments when it's
just her and her guitar, a microphone in front of her and an audience
or a digital multi-track humming in the background.
"For me to not pursue something in music would just be wrong. Does that
make sense?" she asks. "I take it one day at a time."
